Lost wax casting is an ancient technique for making jewelry. The basics of lost wax casting entails: carve the wax model, sprue, invest, burnout in a kiln, and the actual casting -melting of metal and pouring it into the mold. When the metal cools, the investment/plaster is broken away to reveal the cast metal item then the clean-up and finish starts.
I apprenticed under master caster and jeweler, Kit Hollingshead, he is the one who taught me the lost wax method.  This method allows the artist to create by carving unique designs in wax.  Melting metal, filling the plaster mold, heating in kiln and then cooling creates the individual piece. Light the torch, make the magic happen.
